VENUS DAY / / RECOMMENDED READING
Happy Venus Day! As you may know, Friday is ruled by the planet Venus and the Goddess Freya. It is also tied to the Tarot card the Empress. I see Friday as a time to celebrate and connect to the Goddess energy of love, abundance, magic and sensuality. This week I have a recommended reading list to help you savor the Venusian energy.
WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES
This book has had a popular resurgence recently with the Women's empowerment movements. Published in the Early nineties, it is an ode to the Wild Woman. Uncovering and rediscovering feminine archetypes through myth and folklore, this book beautifully crafts the mysteries and power of womanhood. It deliciously captures and evokes the power of the divine feminine and the Wild Woman. Women Who Run with the Wolves reminds us that if we listen, the Wild Woman is there whispering secrets to our souls. Growing up, my mom would read the folklores to me and my sister, teaching us, feeding us, and empowering us as women through the wisdom stored in this book. Still, to this day, it is my absolute favorite and lights up my soul. Clarissa Pinkoles Estes' writing is marvelous, important, and ever relevant. This is a must read.
Red Moon
This book is a wonderful book to help women deepen their understanding of the menstrual cycle. Often in our society today, we taught to view our "moon" as something that is inconvenient, annoying and at times even shameful. What if we changed the script on this? What if, like in ancient times, we viewed the menstrual cycle as something beautiful, magical, and as a gift? There are so many lessons and wisdoms to be learned from this sacred cycle, that should be honored and revered. Miranda Gray takes us through the journey of our cycles, understanding the differences in our moods, bodies and hormones in each phase, and ultimately teaching us that women and their cycles, like the moon, are cyclical. Each day we are changing-- waxing, waning, shedding, so we should be mindful of what phase we are in. Understanding and viewing our cycles through this lens will help us in all aspects of our lives.
Celestial Goddesses
This is a truly magical book centered around Goddess Meditations. Inside it has beautiful illustrations and descriptions of twenty different Goddesses from various cultures and then further accompanied by visual meditations. It provides insight and visual stimulation, as well as taking you on a journey through the meditations and mantras for each Goddess. My favorite way to use this book is through bibliomancy. When I want to see what Goddess energy I am needing, I grab the book, pause, take a breath and then flip it open to a page to see which Goddess appears. And every time, it is exactly what I need.
